With reference to your telegram No.98 of the 27th July, 1932, and to Mr. (now Sir Thomas) Southorn's despatch No.304 of the 16th June, 1932, on the subject of the Tung Wah Hospital, I have the honour to inform you that the Hospital Authorities propose to rebuild at an estimated cost of $300,000 that part of the hospital shown edged red on the enclosed plan. The present building, which was erected in the year 1870, contains 250 beds. The new building which will contain 300 beds, in addition to ample provision for out-patients, will be a thoroughly up-to-date six storied building. The block immediately adjacent shown edged blue on the plan was erected in 1920 and contains 150 beds; this it is proposed to retain. The block shown edged yellow containing 40 beds was recon- structed in 1930. It is proposed to convert this into staff quarters.
